Hey everyone!
I never wrote “life-hack” article before, but what the hell. This is my space now I can write about whatever I want. 🤷🏻♂️ Today I was ready to vacuum and mop. After vacuuming, I started swiffering and everything was going well, then all of a sudden the Swiffer made _the sound_ and I knew what that meant—I was outta juice! Funnily enough, I think this was the same container of cleaner we’ve had for years since my wife and I used our regular mop instead.
Anyway, I told my wife and she was JUST about to order refills when I had an idea. I told her too hold off because I wanted to see if I could make my own replacement. I obviously did, and the best part? It’s easily refillable from the top and cost me nothing but about 10 minutes of my time! Here’s what I did.
PLEASE NOTE: I am in NO WAY responsible for any damages to your wet jet, injuries to yourself, or any other potential damage to….anything or anyone. Try this at your own risk!
Okay, so, with that out of the way, let’s go!
-
First, find a plastic bottle you no longer need. It can be a soda bottle, in my case, I used a bottle of Wish Bone Robusto Italian salad dressing.
-
Heat up your hot glue gun and, while you’re waiting, rinse out the bottle with soap and water. Then CAREFULLY cut through the neck of the bottle and make adjustment cuts as needed until the bottom of the cap portion is relatively flush (it doesn’t have to be perfect).
-
Next, remove the container from your Wet Jet, let any excess cleaner drain out the bottom into your sink, and CAREFULLY cut a hole in the top of the Swiffer refillable container. Again, this doesn’t have to be perfect. When in doubt, smaller is better and it’s easier to just cut a square rather than trying to cut a circle.
-
Take the container and your newly cut cap over to wherever your hot glue gun is at and place the cap on top of the Swiffer container, covering the hole you made. Add a few globs of hot glue and gently hold them together for about thirty seconds until the hot glue sets. Then slowly seal the neck of the bottle to the container by going around it with hot glue a few times. Now wait about five minute or so for the glue to set and bond the pieces together.
-
The final step is to insert the container back into your Swiffer Wet Jet and fill it up with a homemade cleaning mixture of your choice, which you can find online. I just used warm water and some Pine-Sol. Now you should be back in business and you just saved a few bucks! 🤑
